About the Grand Lodge of Kazakhstan

Ten Years of Sovereign Freemasonry, 2026

A Grand Lodge is the governing body of the Lodges of a country or territory. It constitutes the Lodges, keeps their registers and guards the regularity of the Craft.

The Grand Lodge of Kazakhstan, Qazaq Joğary Lojasy, is the regular, sovereign and independent Grand Lodge of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It was consecrated at the Orient of Almaty on 12 November 2016, and six Lodges work under its obedience today, at Almaty, Astana and Bishkek.

What the Grand Lodge of Kazakhstan does

  1. It constitutes and governs the Lodges

The Grand Lodge grants the warrant under which every Lodge of its obedience works, keeps their registers and sees that they work according to the Constitution and the Ancient Landmarks.

  2. It answers to the Craft for its Lodges

It answers for the regularity of every Lodge of its obedience. The evidence of its own standing is set out on the page Regularity and Recognition.

  3. It represents Kazakh Freemasonry abroad

It holds fraternal relations with sister Grand Lodges, receives their delegations and is represented at theirs.

  4. It serves its Brethren and its country

It encourages the study of Masonic history and symbolism, supports the charity of its Lodges and keeps alive the memory of Alikhan Bökeyhan, the first Kazakh Freemason.

What the Grand Lodge of Kazakhstan holds

The Grand Lodge of Kazakhstan was constituted in 2016. It keeps the ancient traditions of the Order and carries the Masonic light in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

  • Every Freemason of the Grand Lodge of Kazakhstan affirms his belief in One God and in the immortality of his soul.

  • Every Freemason holds that the way he worships God is his own concern, and that the way other Freemasons worship is theirs. For that reason every regular Freemason holds firmly to the freedom of religion.

  • Regular Freemasonry offers no path to salvation. Each Freemason seeks his salvation where he worships God, and the Brotherhood encourages him to seek it within the faith to which he belongs.

  • Religion and politics so often set men against each other that their discussion is forbidden in the Grand Lodge of Kazakhstan.

  • Freemasonry brings men of every faith together in a Brotherhood founded on mutual respect, so that they may work together for those in need. If a Freemason's religion asks him to care for those less fortunate, Freemasonry gives him many ways to put that care into practice. In this, Freemasonry seeks to be the companion of every moral religion.
